As we know that Mona lisa is one of the most famous and mysterious painting of all time and which was painted by Leonardo da Vinci one of the most famous painter of all time.
The most famous painting in the world, Leonardo's Mona lisa hangs in the Louvre in Paris. Probably painted between 1503 and 1506.with a little addition in 1510,the Mona Lisa is undoubtedly one of the most famous faces in the world. Yet we are not absolutely sure who the sitter was. The painting was executed for a Florentine silk merchant called Francesco del giocondo, and most historians assume that the painting is an image of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Giocondo, who commissioned the portrait as a celebration to mark the of their second son December of 1502. However, debates have raged for the best part of 500 years as to whether it is actually her.
The word Mona is actually a contraction of Monna, which in turn is a contraction of Madonna, or Mia Donna, meaning "My Lady" or "Madam". It would seem that the English rendition of Mona Lisa is due to spelling error at some time in the past. In French the painting is known as La Jaconde and in Italian La Goiconda, meaning "the marry one" but also a play on the name of the assumed sitter.
The painting shows a brilliant use of a technique known as sfumato, which is a type of blurring and blending of the paint that fuses one tone into another. In the Mona Lisa, Leonardo shows what a master of this technique he had become, defining the corners of the eyes and mouth with such precision and beauty that the painting has an almost dreamlike quality.
One anomaly on the painting is that the figure has no eyebrows. This could be a result of over-zealous cleaning of the masterpiece at some time in the past or simply the sitter completely plucking out her eyebrows, as was then t fashion. Some alternative researchers have claimed that the paintina is actually a self-portrait of Leonardo, being defined as female, or even in hermaphroditic form. Indeed, if you wer to remove the hair of the figure, you would be left witha strangely asexual set of facial features This theory was strengthened when two independent researchers, Liflian Schwartz of Bell Labs and Dr Digby Quested of the Maudsley Hospital in London, both demonstrated that the Mona Lisa could in fact be interpreted as a self-portrait of Leonardo, by taking the later famous self-portrait of him as an old man and "morphing" the features onto the Mona Lisa using modern computer techniques. The results were startling. It would seem that the female Mona Lisa is a very close mirror image of the master's face, with all the major facial lines matching. including the tip of the nose, lips, and eyes.
In 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen by Vincenzo Peruggia, an Italian woodworker employed at the Louvre. Peruggia simply walked out of the Salon Carré in the Louvre, where the painting used to hang, with the masterpiece hidden under his workman's smock. It wasn't recovered until 1913, when he attempted to sell the work to a collector. He had kept the most famous painting in the world in the false bottom of a trunk. It seems that Peruggia believed a large number of Italian works of art in the Louvre had been stolen by Napoleon and he wanted to return the Mona Lisa to its rightful Italian home.
So this is the story of the most famous painting of the word, Mona Lisa and some facts about it.
